44kWp Solar System with 60kWh BESS for Spookfontein Wine Farm in Hemel-en-Aarde
A lot of sunshine is required for the vines to produce good wine. And now, all of that sun, is going to produce a big part of the monthly electricity usage of the Spookfontein Wine Farm.
The System is built in a custom shipping container, which is placed close to the grid connection point. This reduced the required cabling "Sig"nificantly and allowed us to install the system away from the tasting room and restaurant, maintaining the tranquil setting of the farm.
Ground-mount Solar for optimal angles
We installed a total of 3 orientations. Our detailed assessment and power measurements before installation revealed peak consumption times. Instead of building the Solar Array for the maximum yield on paper, we oriented everything to produce the most Solar Power when the most electricity is consumed on the farm. This optimised the CapEx on this first phase and ultimately gave us the competitive advantage to be awarded this project.
120kW SigEnergy Gateway for future upgrades
In 16 years of building Solar Systems we learned a lot. One of the most important lessons: You will consume more electricity in 5 years than you do today. This is why we only install Solar and BESS Systems that can grow in future by quite some margin to ensure your Solar System can power you for decades to come.
Modularity wins - SigEnergy powering this first Phase for Spookfontein
2x 25kW SigEnergy inverters are now producing carbon-neutral and free electricity for Spookfontein. With 60kWh of Lithium Batteries we are supplying power during peak-times and ensure the maximum cost-saving for the farm, as well as backup during power outages. The Solar System will eventually triple in size - the 120kW Gateway in the background is already sized for that - nothing wasted on the road to full energy independence.
